VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND SKILLS ACQUISITION CENTRE IGBOOYE CELEBRATES SAC DAY IN GRAND STYLE

It was a great and eventful day as the VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND SKILLS ACQUISITION CENTRE IGBOOYE CELEBRATES SAC day and exhibition

The vocational skills acquisition centre which was in 2007 by the Lagos State Government under the Ministry of women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) in order to empower, fostering skills development and personal growth among women and youths.  

The Skills Acquisition Centre Day (SAC Day) is an annual event aimed at showcasing products from the centre, exhibiting and educating women and youths on the importance of vocational training. The 2nd edition was held on Wednesday 4th of December 2024, at the school premises at Igbooye, Epe, Lagos and saw participation from the neighbouring towns like Ilara, Ibonwon Odo-ragindin, Mojoda to mention few.

Present at the event was Pastor Ajayi, Hon. Seyi Keshinro who represents hon. Soliu former Chairman of Eredo LCDA., Mrs Jonah B. O. (Rt. Director), Mrs Alimi Modinat, Mrs. Adenopo Comfort, Prince T. A. Ibrahim, Otunba Ajayi who was also represented by his wife and many more.


During the opening speech presentation of the centre's principal Mrs. Oluwo Adenike, she appreciates Lagos State Government and Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation WAPA for the privilege given to the community the school is located in order to have vocational skilled for the betterment of their lives and community as a whole. She also thank the executive chairman of the LCDA Hon Monsuru Akinloyè, the King of the community Oba Gbadebo Michael Onakoya, the Orijeru of Igbooye and the entire Baale and Chiefs for the unwavering support given to all events of the centre.

Mrs Oluwo Adenike stated that the centre has produced over four thousand (4,000) students from various departments of the centre since inspection in 2007. The vocational training centre is sub divided into various departments such as computer department, fashion department, catering services department hair dressing and barbering department photography department, adult literacy department, art and bead departments and textile department but it unfortunate that the art & bead and textile department are not functioning because there are no instructors for this department. 

She uses the medium as an opportunity to seek for more instructors for the centre and more departments so that students can lean more skill form the centre Also she encouraged the outgoing students not to stop learning and be steadfast in whatever they are doing.



The event features drama dance fashion parade with lots of fun while some of the outgoing students brag about their achievements during their programme in the vocational training centre. Miss Elizabeth popularly known as Queen said despite all the discouragement from peers, she is proud to be one of the outgoing students. Mr. Hakeem Ayomide also said "I'm a professional cobbler but my passion for catering services had made me came to vocational training centre to learn and I'm proud to have the skill as plan B in life" 

Miss Odusola Mercy who was over excited during the SAC day said she was proud of herself for making the right decision in coming to vocational training centre to leann

On behalf of Hon. Adeniyi Soliu, Hon. Seyi Keshinro empowered two outgoing students with cash which include Amos Femi catering department and Morohundiya Gbenga form fashion department 

While speaking with our correspondence, Mrs Akíntúndé Olajumoke an instructor at the centre said, parents, guidance and youth within the community and it environs are not well informed about the vocational training centre in Igbooye it's facilities and services provided. She implore all stakeholders to promote the centre for ward not to have idle hands.


Mr. Ogunsanya Femi, another instructor of the centre, he said "vocational training and skills acquisition are vital components of personal development. They provide individuals with practical skills, enhance employability, build confidence, and foster personal fulfillment. By investing in vocational training, individuals not only improve their own lives but also contribute to the well-being of society as a whole.

The 2nd edition of SAC Day was a resounding success, providing some of the outgoing students with cash empowerment and essential skills. Plans for the next section are already underway, and also encourage everyone to take advantage of these opportunities for growth, he concluded.
