Catch Them Young: Dentsu Nigeria Inspires Future Ad Stars in Lagos Classrooms

 By Oluwafunke Ishola

What happens when top advertising professionals trade their boardrooms for classrooms? For Dentsu Nigeria, it’s the start of a powerful movement to ignite the dreams of the next generation.

As part of Dentsu Global’s annual “One Day for Change” (ODfC) initiative—a day dedicated to using creativity and community action as a force for good—Dentsu Nigeria took bold steps into Lagos public secondary schools to mentor students on careers in advertising and marketing.

“Our goal is simple: catch them young and show them a path,” said Emeka Okeke, Group Chief Executive Officer of MediaFuse-Dentsu Nigeria. “We believe it’s our responsibility to inspire and empower students to explore the vast world of marketing and advertising.”

The team recently hosted an impactful mentorship session at Army Children Secondary School in Ikeja, where students were given an insider’s look into the dynamic world of advertising. The initiative wasn’t just a lecture—it was a hands-on, interactive experience that broke down the industry into four key career paths: Digital, Creative, Core Media, and Finance.

Wilfred Emmanuel, Senior Digital Performance Manager at Dentsu Performance Nigeria, led a particularly eye-opening session on digital marketing, where students learned how data and technology are revolutionizing the way brands connect with audiences.

“The students lit up during the digital session,” Okeke said. “They were curious, energetic, and full of questions. That’s the spark we’re aiming for.”

Kelani Mustapha, Human Resource Manager at MediaFuse-Dentsu Nigeria, emphasized that this isn’t a one-off effort. “We’re not just sparking interest—we’re building a talent pipeline. These students are the future of our industry, and we’re committed to helping them see what’s possible.”

Looking ahead, Dentsu Nigeria plans to deepen this engagement by inviting selected students to experience life inside an advertising agency through immersive shadowing sessions.

In a world where many young people are unaware of the career possibilities available to them, Dentsu Nigeria is showing what’s possible—one school, one student, one dream at a time.
