The Management of has paid a formal courtesy visit to the Palace of its newly appointed 6th Substantive Chancellor, , Telade IV, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, in a ceremony that blended institutional honour with rich cultural heritage.

The delegation, led by the Vice-Chancellor and senior management officials of the University, visited the revered monarch shortly after the official confirmation of his appointment by the Governor of Lagos State, . The appointment has been widely celebrated as historic, marking the first time a traditional ruler has been elevated to the Chancellorship of the University, thereby reinforcing collaboration between academia and traditional leadership.

Historic gathering at the Palace

The courtesy visit, held on Thursday, 19 February 2026, attracted an impressive gathering of dignitaries and traditional leaders at the Palace in Ilara Kingdom. Royal Fathers from Eredo LCDA, members of the Alara-in-Council, distinguished Chiefs, and the Baale-Alara-in-Council assembled in solidarity to celebrate the monarch’s elevation.

The Palace environment reflected a mood of pride, unity, and celebration, as cultural displays and traditional protocols underscored the significance of the occasion. Observers described the gathering as a moment of collective honour for Ilara Kingdom and the wider Epe Division.

University expresses confidence in Chancellor’s leadership

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor conveyed the excitement of the University community over the appointment, noting that the choice of the Alara represents a strategic bridge between intellectual advancement and cultural heritage. She reaffirmed the University’s confidence in the Chancellor’s leadership qualities, wisdom, and statesmanship, expressing optimism that his tenure would contribute significantly to institutional growth and global relevance.

Monarch pledges commitment to institutional advancement

Responding, His Imperial Majesty expressed deep appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the confidence reposed in him. He described the honour as one that extends beyond personal recognition to encompass the entire Ilara Kingdom and the traditional institution.

The monarch assured the visiting University Management of his readiness to support initiatives that will strengthen academic excellence, promote institutional stability, and enhance the University’s international standing.

Royal Fathers, chiefs commend appointment

Goodwill messages delivered by Royal Fathers and council members highlighted the collective pride associated with the appointment. Speakers described the development as a shared victory for Ilara Kingdom, Epe Division, and traditional institutions across Lagos State. They also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for fostering closer ties between government, academia, and traditional leadership through the historic decision.
