Youth Leader Raises Alarm Over Land Grabbing Crisis in Epe Division
By Sultan Teslim
In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and Okemagba News, youth leader Adedeji Adebanjo highlighted a troubling trend affecting over 20 communities in Epe Division: rampant land grabbing. The situation has escalated significantly in 2024, leaving many residents living in fear.
Adebanjo described the activities of land grabbers as both alarming and disheartening, noting the severe repercussions on the lives and properties of local inhabitants. “Last year alone, more than 15 farmers and landowners lost their lives in conflicts instigated by these invaders,” he lamented.
Communities such as Ilamija, Ibonwon, Ilara, Odo-Egiri, Odomola, Imokun, Araga, Ketu-Ejirin, Ibeju-Lekki, Lakowe, Akodo, and Eleko have all experienced the devastating impacts of this crisis. The youth leader expressed deep concern about the ongoing distress and fear faced by residents due to the persistent threat of land grabbers.
Adebanjo urged the Lagos State Government to take decisive action by strengthening existing laws against land grabbing. “Land grabbers are not government task force members or agents. We need the government to eliminate their unscrupulous actions from our communities,” he stated firmly.
“Enough is enough. We must enforce the law against anyone unlawfully encroaching on private or communal lands,” he insisted, emphasizing the need for prioritizing the safety and security of residents and landowners alike.
Despite the grim reality, Adebanjo remains hopeful for a future free from land-grabbing incidents, calling for collective action to restore peace and security in Epe Division.
