By Oluwaseunayofunmi
Chief Oluwaseun Williams Afuye, proudly bearing the chieftaincy title Akeweje of Ilara Kingdom, is a distinguished educator, community leader, and academic deeply rooted in the cultural and historical heritage of Ilara Kingdom in Eredo LCDA, Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria.

Hailing from the prestigious Bakare-Afuye Descendants Family of Aleke Quarters, he is a direct descendant of the first Eketa-Ilu and the first Jewo-Oba of Ilara Kingdom. Chief Afuye is the son of the late Pa Moses Muniru Afuye and Madam Adunni Sikiratu Afuye (née Apena-Busura), and remains one of the kingdom’s most illustrious sons.

Academic and Professional Journey

Chief Afuye’s educational journey began at Igbooye Community High School, followed by his studies at the Lagos State College of Primary Education (LACOPED), now Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Noforija. There, he served with distinction as the Public Relations Officer (P.R.O.) of both the National Association of Business Education Students (NABES) and the Students Union Government (SUG).

His teaching career spans several schools across Lagos, including Nazareth Commercial College (Ibonwon-Epe), Okemagba Junior Grammar School (Mojoda-Epe), and Kings & Queens Group of Schools (formerly Ola-Oluwa Nursery & Primary School), where he rose to the position of Head Teacher.

From 2012 to 2018, he taught at Lagos State Model Junior College, Igbonla-Eredo, where he also served as a Master on Duty and House Manager, earning the Best House Manager Award in 2015/2016 and a commendation in 2017.

Currently, he serves as a non-academic staff member at Lagos State University (LASU) and lectures in the university's Sandwich Degree Programme in Epe. He is also a registered member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

A Scholar and Lifelong Learner

Chief Afuye holds a B.Sc (Ed) and M.Ed in Business Education from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ogun State. In 2019, with TASUED’s accreditation to run a Doctoral Degree in Business Education, he became one of the first to enroll in the PhD program—marking yet another milestone in his academic journey.

He is an active member of the Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (ABEN) and a respected figure in the Nigerian Vigilance and Community Service Corps (NVCSC), serving as a State Intelligence Officer in the Lagos Command.

Community Leadership and Service

Beyond academics, Chief Afuye is a devoted community servant. He is the pioneer General Secretary of the Peace-Making Group (PMG) in Ilara and the founding Secretary of the Bakare-Afuye Descendants Association, which is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Words of Gratitude

Chief Afuye credits much of his success to the support and inspiration of key mentors and family members, including Chief Stephen O. Bakare (Baba-Alaje of Ijebu Land), Chairman of Oluwalogbon Group of Companies; Mrs. Adunni S. Afuye; Bishop Dr. Adekunle Afuye; and Apostle Dr. Chris Bakare (USA).
